Grandparents’ Day at The Lodge

Ice Cream Social with Alameda‘s own Tucker’s Ice Cream

The Lodge at Harbor Bay hosted an ice cream social for Lodge residents and their friends and family on Saturday, September 12th to celebrate Grandparents’ Day 2015.  Alameda’s own Tucker’s Ice Cream was served and enjoyed by everyone who attended.

National Grandparents’ Day 2015 was proclaimed by President Barack Obama to honor the sacrifices that grandparents make and to continue to show our affection and appreciation for them.

Marion McQuade, a housewife from Oak Hill, West Virginia is recognized as the founder of National Grandparents’ Day.  Ms. McQuade made it her goal to educate the youth in her community about the important contributions seniors have made throughout history and encouraged them to “adopt” a grandparent.  After Ms.McQuade gained support for Grandparents’ Day from decision makers throughout the country, the US Senate passed legislation that designated Grandparents’ Day as the first Sunday after Labor Day and on August 3, 1978, then-President Jimmy Carter signed the first National Grandparents’ Day proclamation.

Cheers to our wonderful Grandparents!!
