Maintain and regain, fitness and function

AES Therapy & Fitness is a wellness, rehabilitation, and fitness center that has been specially designed for seniors. It is both a Medicare licensed Outpatient Rehabilitation Agency and a Fitness Center that provides wellness and strengthening programs at an affordable cost.

The idea for AES Therapy & Fitness came from observing AEC Living’s diverse senior population. Using these observations as a base, our therapists and fitness team offer a broad spectrum of services to both the resident population of AEC Living and seniors in the surrounding communities.

Seniors participating in the fitness program at AES Therapy & Fitness are assisted by trained specialists to maintain a high degree of fitness and health. If circumstances require rehabilitation due to an accident or sudden change in health, seniors can be treated by our team of therapists and health professionals who are already familiar with their needs.

“I am a 90 year old senior who not only benefits from, but actually enjoys participating in, exercise classes.  Rosemarie is a skilled professional and seems to have that magic feel and touch for striking just the right level for each class.”

“Our 84-year-old mom had been using a walker for a couple of years and was only slowly recovering from total knee replacement surgery. Since working with her personal trainer,  her gait and stability have improved so much, she no longer needs her walker and only occassionally needs a cane for longer excursions. We couldn’t be more pelased with her progress!”

Fitness

Seniors participating in the fitness program at AES Therapy & Fitness are assisted by trained specialists to maintain a high degree of fitness and health. If circumstances require rehabilitation due to an accident or sudden change in health, seniors can be treated by our team of therapists and health professionals who are already familiar with their needs.

At AES Therapy & Fitness we are committed to keeping seniors healthy and living at their highest possible level of functioning.

Our goal to help individuals increase their general level of health and fitness. Our exercise programs are designed to meet the specific needs of seniors, promoting heart health, bone density, muscle strength, and improved levels of endurance, balance, and confidence. Most fitness experts recommend that all adults, including seniors, engage in moderately intense physical exercise 30-45 minutes per day, at least 5 days per week. Research also suggests that exercise can also decrease risk of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and certain types of cancer.

Senior Fitness Testing

A nationally recognized test that assesses strength, flexibility, agility, and endurance. The test takes 20-30 minutes to administer and provides the information necessary to help tailor a fitness program to an individual’s particular needs.

Upper Body Strengthening

Upper body workouts are beneficial for loosening tension in the chest while improving both cardiovascular health and circulation. This class is geared for strengthening the upper body’s major muscle groups including shoulders, back, arms, and chest using free weights.

Group Exercise Classes

Focusing on the needs most urgently experienced by seniors, these classes emphasize general strengthening, cardiovascular training, and balance work. Group classes offer the advantage of working out with other people in a safe and fun setting.

Core Strengthening and Flexibility

A perfect way to ease into your week is with a continuous movement class that focuses on lubricating and attaining full range of motion of your joints. Work on strengthening the core muscles while sitting, then add weight bearing exercises to complete core strengthening while standing.

Lower Body Strengthening

Maintenance of leg strength allows ease and mobility as well as balance improvement, all important for preventing falls. This class focuses on hip and leg strength and flexibility including light intensity power training for the whole body. An increase in lower body strength is a definite boost for quality of life.

Posture Class

This class uses thera-bands and light weights with minimal movements that are based on osteoporosis postural programs. This quick and easy class incorporates the habit of good posture in your weekly routine.

Cycle Circuit

This is a hybrid class of focused breathing followed by a circuit involving upper and lower body cycling. This class moves continuously, switching the major muscle groups that are working in order to maintain an elevated heart rate for the class duration.

Open Gym

Members have the opportunity to work independently on their specific goals whether it be for themselves or from a home exercise program made by a physical therapist upon being discharged.

Personal Training

Many people, particularly those who haven’t exercised for some time, feel more comfortable exercising under the direction and supervision of a fitness professional. Our personal trainers focus on the physical needs and abilities of seniors, and will design an exercise program to help achieve each individual’s goals. Sessions are offered once, twice, or three times a week.
