Eye Drops – A Caregiver Tip
Successfully administer eye drops
When administering eye drops, first explain what you are going to do to relax the person. Positioning is also important so drops are successfully applied and expensive eye medications are not wasted. It is recommend that the caregiver have the senior sit in a chair that permits them to comfortably lean their head back. This allows you to be well balanced above the eye and see what you are doing, and lets gravity do most of the work.
January is National Glaucoma Month and eye drops are an important treatment for this, and many other, age related eye diseases. To read more about Glaucoma please see our article Glaucoma, What is it?
