COVID-19 Friday 3-13-20

Updates as of 3/13/2020

No Residents or Staff have shown any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

However, we have received new direction from both the CA Department of Health and CA Department of Social Services, so we are implanting new protocols. To assist with this, we have created a tier system to help illustrate the current risk and response. Currently, we are at level YELLOW, which means that virus is not present, but, we are implementing the following protocols to limit the risk of exposure to Residents and Staff at the Waters Edge and Elders Inn:

  • Guests of residents are still permitted, but are being asked to wash their hands at the outside handwashing station before coming in.
  • We have installed handwashing stations at both entrances to the building, and require everyone to wash their hands for 20 seconds before entering.
  • Only Residents can eat in the dining room.  Guest will be prohibited from eating and sitting in the dining room during this time.  Guests may eat with their family in the Resident’s apartment, and we will provide room service if requested.
  • Children under the age of 14 are not permitted in the building.  Since many children are not showing symptoms of the disease we are taking this precaution to prevent an asymptotic child from bringing the illness into the building.  Guests under the age of 14 will be permitted to visit residents in the outside patios, but will not be allowed inside the building.  After the visit ends Residents are required to wash their hands before re-entering the building.
  • Activities are now limited to a maximum of 10 people, additional sessions of popular activities, including exercise classes and movie showings, will be added.   Additionally, we are spacing the chairs and participants at least 6 feet apart.
  • Staff is strongly encouraging social distancing and will be kindly reminding people to try and stay at least 6 feet apart from each other.
  • We recommend people call or video chat with residents instead of visiting in person at this time. We are available to help facilitate this request if the resident is unable to call on their own, and will help schedule regular call or reminders if asked.  Our activities staff members and management staff in each building would be happy to facilitate this request if called upon.

As a reminder, we are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 outbreaks and will adjust our precautions as recommended by our various regulatory agencies.

Throughout this event, we are reminding everyone to consider their own risk; if you have potentially been exposed to COVID-19 do not come into the community.
