Staying Safe in the Heat
This month starts the beginning of summer time! While being outdoors is a great way to spend time with family and friends, we highly recommend that our residents wear protective, lightweight clothing, try and stay in shaded areas, and use sunblock! Elderly skin tends to be more fragile, which lets those powerful Ultra-Violet rays penetrate the skin quickly. We always look at ways to improve wellness for our residents, which includes fall prevention.
One of the easiest and most convenient ways that each person can do this is to stay hydrated! While all fluids do count, most experts recommend a daily intake of one cup of water for every 20 pounds of body weight, and even more if its hot out! I always say that if you feel thirsty, you are already not drinking enough.
