Crab Feed! Raising Money for Two Great Causes!

AEC Living is on the town again! On Saturday, March 26th, the Alameda Firefighters IAFF Local 689 and the Alameda Education Association (AEA) held a Crab Feed to benefit Alameda Family Service’s DreamCatcher Homeless Youth Shelter and Alameda Point Collaborative. Crab was once again provided by JP Seafood. This is the 4th year that these two groups have held this sold out event for the good of the Alameda community.

One of the of the evening’s many highlights was the dessert auction featuring cakes made by members of AEA paired with complimentary tasty adult beverages. Bidding was fast and furious for the champagne cake paired with Proseco, that AEC was lucky to acquire!!

DreamCatcher Youth Services has been the only safe landing for homeless and disconnected at risk youth in Alameda County who are between the ages of 13-18 since the year 2000. Over 90% who have been through DreamCatcher have moved directly into stable housing, further education or employment.

The youth exit to greater safety and go on to futures they didn’t have the energy to imagine when they first arrived at DreamCatcher. Over a third of their staff are graduates of the program who returned as adults wanting to give back for all they received, for the ways their lives changed.

Alameda Point Collaborative is a supportive housing community that uses all its resources to help families and individuals break the cycle of homelessness and poverty. We are the largest supportive housing provider for homeless families in Alameda County, and our wide range of services give residents the tools they need for long-term success.

Residents work with on-site case managers and counselors to break down barriers to stability. Adults in the community may participate in our workforce development program and take advantage of one of our on-the-job training opportunities. The nearly 300 children and youth who call APC home get the help they need for academic success.

AEC Living takes pride in our record of giving back to our community; we love Alameda, and want it to continue to be a place we are proud to come from and proud to be in, and we believe that building a better community requires participation – you must contribute time, talent, & treasure.
